In my work, I explore abstract ideas of the passage of time and fragments of memories, through investigation of color, form and space. The figures depicted represent different stages of myself or significant people in my life. These private narratives are the reflection of my emotional experiences of being far away from family and significant others; thus, they often appear quiet, with a sense of longing and waiting in the image. I am interested in painting the idea of fleeting motion in a figure. My painting process often responded to the change of the environment and the setups. I am interested in the residue and history of these changes and shifts in my paintings, because it corresponds to the busy shifting world that I experience. The process itself becomes a record of time and emotional response to my surroundings.

I work from direct observation and imagination. My intent is to create space that feels familiar yet strange. Working from direct observation always informs my imagination and invention. I allow my narrative to happen organically. I am not interested in merely depiction, but more the interpretation of the reality and authentic emotion in an image.
