Preface
After living in Macau for many years, this city has become woven into the very fabric of my soul: its distinctive texture shaped by both Chinese and Western cultures; its weathered old streets and narrow stone lanes; and the everyday bustle of human life beneath the arcades—all of it has long since turned into the softest undertone within me.
Looking back on my artistic journey,my brush has never been able to leave this land. I have grown accustomed to using oil paint’s weight and solidity, sketching’s sharp immediacy, and watercolor’s lively transparency to capture the fleeting light, shadows, and breath of this small city.
For me, watercolor act as a flowing dialogue. Water and color freely merge and seep across the paper—just like Macau itself: a city that is inclusive and ever-changing. It holds both the depth and ancient simplicity of historical accumulation, and the bright, flickering rhythm of modern life. In this exhibition, I have selected a series of standout works from recent years. From the classic architectural outline of “The Macau Post Office Building” to the shifting play of light in “Senado Square”; from the brilliant nights of “Night Macau”and “Beneath the Fireworks” to countless everyday slices of life found in ordinary corners and alleys—each work has condensed my deep, tender gaze toward this city.
Art is a mirror of the inner world. I hope that through these watercolor works, viewers will not only see familiar scenes of Macau, but also feel the sincerity and quiet peace flowing through every brushstroke.
Thank you to the teachers, collectors, and friends who have supported me along the way. I sincerely welcome everyone into my watercolor world—let us savor together the memories and poetic moments of our small city.
